- Send files to the console with Taildrop. Send a file from any of your own devices (share menu on a phone, "Send with Tailscale" on a desktop, or
tailscale file cp). It lands in/data/tailscale/received, the console shows a notification, and the status page lists it with a download link. Sending files from the console is not implemented. - Install updates from the status page. From the next release on, the update notice has an Install button. It downloads the release, checks that it is signed with this project's release key, and starts it; login and settings are kept. Nothing is installed without pressing the button. If your payload manager starts
tailscale.elfat boot, put that file's path under Payload file to keep up to date in the settings so the update replaces it too. - "Only my own devices." A new setting limits who on the tailnet can reach the console (every forwarded port, Remote Play and the status page) to devices logged in as the same user. Other users' devices and devices shared into your tailnet are turned away. Off by default.
- Key expiry warning. The page shows when the console's Tailscale key expires and warns two weeks ahead; the console shows a notification as well. To avoid expiry, choose Disable key expiry for the console in the Tailscale admin console.
- A notification when a newer release exists, once per release, in addition to the notice on the page.
- Start-up problems leave a trace. If the payload cannot start it now says why in a notification and in
/data/tailscale/launcher.log. Until now a payload manager would simply show nothing. If Tailscale does not start on your console, please attach that file to your report.
Changed
- Click an address on the status page to copy it.
- The device list no longer breaks words in the middle on phones.

Replace

v0.5.2 Stable
released this
2026-10-05 21:25:16 +02:00 | 4 commits to main since this releaseA small hardening release.
Changed
- Connections from the tailnet are now only passed to the console's services when they are addressed to the console's own tailnet addresses. Nothing else reached them before, so nothing was exposed; the check is now explicit instead of relying on that.
- The README explains why the console does not offer itself as an exit node: it is doable, but it would be slow and would drop out whenever the console goes into rest mode or reboots.
Everything else is as in v0.5.1.

2026-10-05 21:25:17 +02:00 | 5 commits to main since this releaseDevice list: groups, search and filters
- Grouped by kind. Devices of your tailnet, devices shared with you, and VPN exit servers each get their own group.
- VPN exit servers stay out of the way. If your tailnet has a VPN add-on such as Mullvad, its exit servers are counted but not listed until you tick Show VPN exit servers. (#1)
- Search by name, address, OS, tag or place.
- Online only toggle.
- Exit node status. Devices that can be used as an exit node are marked.
- The device count and the game streaming host suggestions no longer include exit servers.
The grouping of VPN exit servers has been tested with made-up data only; reports from tailnets that have the add-on are welcome.

- Password for the status page. Set one under Settings and everything that shows or changes something asks for it: status, logs, settings, log in/out, stop, uninstall. The console's own browser is not asked. Without a password the page works as before.
- Settings on the status page. Name, forwarded ports, blocked ports, forwards, proxy, priority and update checks can be changed from the page; the config file no longer has to be edited by hand. Most changes take effect at once, and the page says which ones need Tailscale to be started again.
- Several game streaming hosts. Add more than one Sunshine host, each with its own port. Hosts that share a port cannot be used at the same time, so give each Sunshine a different port.
- Update notice. The page says when a newer release exists. It only tells you; nothing is downloaded. Can be turned off in the settings.
- Priority setting. If a stream stutters under a demanding game, set Priority to High and start Tailscale again. The default is unchanged (lowest).
- Favicon, and the device list on the status page can be collapsed.
Changed
- The HTTP proxy is off by default. Turn it on in the settings if you use it. An existing config keeps its setting.
- Uninstall now also removes the home screen icon.
- After the console's network is reconfigured, Tailscale is asked to rebind straight away.
Tested
- A short stay in rest mode: Tailscale carried on by itself and was back on the tailnet within a second of waking. The console is not reachable while it sleeps. Hours in rest mode have not been tried.

v0.4.1 Stable
released this
2026-10-05 21:25:21 +02:00 | 7 commits to main since this releaseSimplified installation
There is now a single file,
tailscale.elf, and no installer.- Send
tailscale.elfto your console's ELF loader (port 9021) and Tailscale starts. Openhttp://<console-ip>:8090to log in. - The first run adds the Tailscale icon to the home screen by itself.
- To have it start with the console, add
tailscale.elfto your payload manager or autoloader like any other payload. - To update, replace the file. Sending it while Tailscale is running replaces the running copy; the login and settings are kept.
Changed
- Uninstall on the status page now logs the console out, deletes
/data/tailscale(login, settings, logs) and stops Tailscale. Delete the home screen icon from the home screen, and remove the payload from your payload manager if you added it there.
Upgrading from an earlier version
- Use
tailscale.elffrom this release wherever you ran the installer or the oldtailscale.elffrom. Your login is kept. - The old installer left a copy at
/data/tailscale/tailscale.elf(and v0.2.1 another under your autoloader's folder). They are no longer used or updated; replace or delete them.
Everything else is as in v0.4.0, including Remote Play and Moonlight/Sunshine forwarding. Full instructions are in the README.

- Remote Play over Tailscale. The console's Remote Play service is now reachable at its tailnet address: the daemon forwards UDP 9295, 9296, 9297 and 9302 (TCP 9295 was already forwarded). Add the console to your Remote Play client by its tailnet address and connect from anywhere, with no port forwarding on your router. Tested and working with Chiaki, and with Asobi on iOS and Android.
- New
udpPortssetting inconfig.jsonlists the console's UDP ports reachable from the tailnet. The default is the four Remote Play ports;[]turns inbound UDP off. - The status page shows what is reachable from the tailnet.

- The installer no longer touches payload autoloaders. It stores the daemon as
/data/tailscale/tailscale.elf, adds the home screen icon and starts Tailscale. After a console restart, send that file (or the installer) to the ELF loader again, or add it to your own autoloader yourself. - The status page no longer shows an autostart line, and Uninstall only removes the daemon payload (and, if you choose, the saved login).
If you installed v0.2.1, it added
tailscale.elfto your autoloader's list and stored a copy for it (for Payload Manager:/data/pldmgr/payloads/Tailscale/). This release does not remove or update that entry; remove or replace it yourself if you do not want the old copy to start at boot.Install

What is in it
- Tailscale v1.104.0 in userspace mode: the console joins your tailnet and its TCP services (FTP, payload loader, web tools) are reachable at its tailnet address.
- Game streaming: forwards a Sunshine host on your tailnet to
127.0.0.1, so a Moonlight client on the PS5 can stream over Tailscale. - Status page on port 8090 with login QR code, device list and controls.
- Autostart through Payload Manager or a
ps5_autoloaderfolder.
Known limits
- Not a system-wide VPN: games and PSN traffic do not use Tailscale.
- Tested on a single console (firmware 13.42, elfldr 0.26, Payload Manager 0.5.2).
- Do not set the daemon's HTTP proxy as the PS5 system proxy, and do not change the console's network while a stream is running. See the README.
