## Notifications
### "Controlled by restricted setting"
Android doesn't let sideloaded apps (anything not installed from a store) get notification
access right away, so the switch for FrameMate is greyed out. You have to allow it once:
1. Try to turn on notification access for FrameMate once, so you get the "restricted setting"
message. (The option below only shows up after that.)
2. Open the app info: Settings > Apps > FrameMate, or the **Open app info** button in
FrameMate's settings.
3. Tap the ⋮ menu in the top right and choose **Allow restricted settings**, confirm with your
PIN or fingerprint.
4. Go back to notification access and turn it on for FrameMate, now it works.
### Notifications don't show up in the headset
- Is the bell in the top bar on (not crossed out)?
- Is the app you're expecting switched off under Settings > Notifications?
- Are you wearing the headset? Steam doesn't show toasts while it's asleep.
- Try **Send a test notification** in the settings. If that works, the connection is fine and
it's about the app or its notifications. If not, the line below the button tells you what went wrong.
- Silent and ongoing notifications (music players, downloads, ...) are skipped on purpose.

FrameMate can show your phone's notifications in the headset, as regular Steam toasts. It's off
by default: tap the bell in the top bar to turn it on, the crossed out bell means it's off.
The first time, Android asks you to give FrameMate notification access. After that every app's
notifications get forwarded, you can switch off the ones you don't want in Settings (apps show
up there once they've posted a notification).

Your notifications only go to your Frame, encrypted, and are never stored. If someone else is
using the headset, just tap the bell again and nothing gets forwarded.

Android greys out the notification access switch for sideloaded apps. Open the app info, tap ⋮
and choose Allow restricted settings, then try again. More in the
